H1N1
My son got sent home from school with a flu. I know that the hype about H1N1 are as nessicary as all the freak out about Bird Flu.
So, my son did go to the hospital because of his high fever. Tylennol had already brought the fever down, but I was concerned. I heard from two nurses and a doctor, that a flu is a flu is a flu. It is viral, and the best they can do is treat the symptoms. They didn't even TEST for the flu. The only time they would test is if the patient is under 2 over 65 or has some other factor that makes them high risk, like COPD or emphasema.
So, don't worry. All the hype out there is fear mongering. If you aren't at risk, and you get a flu, go to the pharmacy. Mucinex is good for thinning mucus, tylenol brings down your fever and so does ibuprophen, BathThereapy make a cold and flu version that is good for achy muscles and aromatic, for your lungs. Most pharmacies also carry eucaliptus oil -- which is the main ingredient in Vapo-Rub. Treat the symptoms, unless your lungs are really conjested, you don't need a doctor.
